Created in 1998, Contratiempo is one of the most important classic tango orchestras in Buenos Aires. The orchestra is characterized for the strength of its interpretation of tango classical as well as by the quality of the musical arrangements made by the director and pianist Silvina Paulela. The 6 musicians take their inspiration from classic tango musicians such as Osvaldo Pugliese, Anibal Toilo and Alfredo Gobbi. Mrs Paulela also creates her own arrangements and her music is ideal for dance.

Contratiempo played in the greatest tango houses in Buenos Aires in Argentina.

The orchestra also produced two CD: Arrabaleando and Locura tanguera. Their music is worldwide diffused notably in Japan, in the United States and in Europe. In 2006 and 2007, Contratiempo toursed twice in Europe (Ireland, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Germany).

ENSEMBLE MONTREAL TANGO

Victor Simon is the founder and artistic director of the Ensemble Montreal Tango. Highly skilled pianist, composer and arranger, Victor Simon lives with the sound of Argentinian musics since his chilhood. Native of Santiago del Estero, the city of Argentinian city of musical folklore, he continues the musical tradition forged by the family of his father: Los Hermanos Simon. He completed his mastering of piano through studies in composition at the University of Cordoba.

Today he writes diverse compositions for the Ensemble Montreal Tango and creates all arrangements of the group repertory.

FIESTANGO

In 2005, violinist Amélie Lamontagne, bass player Geneviève Bigonnesse and pianist Janie Caron came together in order to share a common passion: tango. Together, they explored tango music's vast repertory and started creating arrangements of classic Argentinian standards as well as more modern and audacious pieces. Thus the Fiestango ensemble was born. The group's name is a testament to the festive energy that results when these three collaborators get together to make music. Their shared adventures have included a concert tour presented at l’Île-des-Moulins in Terrebonne, at the Jardins Séguin in St-Hyacinthe and at the P’tite Scène in St-Denis-sur-Richelieu. Fiestango was also commissioned by Jeunesses Musicales du Canada to create a play introducing tango music to children.

ASTORIAS

How to define Astorias's impressionist tango? A kiss stolen on a street corner... A taxi driver singing to himself... A forgotten cigar smoking away on a café table or an old radio playing in a wharehouse at the port... A streetlamp basking a deserted street in its red glow.

Denis Plante - bandoneon
Stéphane Allard - violin
Marc Villemure - guitar
Jean Félix Mailloux - double-bass
Isaiah Ceccarelli - drums
Sophie Lemaire - guest vocalist
